When was the last time you talked with someone about your health and received the personal attention you deserve?

It’s rare for anyone to get an hour to work on their nutrition and goals with a trained professional. As a Health Coach, I create a supportive environment that will enable you to achieve all of your health goals. I have studied all the major dietary theories and use practical lifestyle coaching methods to guide you in discovering which approach works best for you.

Most approaches to nutrition dwell on calories, carbs, fats, proteins. Instead of creating lists of restrictions and good and bad foods, I coach my clients to create a happy, healthy life in a way that is flexible, fun and free of denial and discipline.

No one diet works for everyone. I will guide you to find the food and lifestyle choices that best support you. I will also help you to make gradual, lifelong changes that enable you to reach your current and future health goals.

What Are You Hungry For?

I woke up this morning with an Alanis song stuck in my head.  You may remember "Not the Doctor" from Jagged Little Pill.  It's an anthem to an addict she loves.  She goes on to insist that she doesn't want to be "the filler" of the "void that's solely yours."  The...

How Well Do You Know Your Beans?

Creamy cannellinis, meaty garbanzos, sweet adzuki, tender pintos, and so many more—beans are one of the most powerful, nutrient-dense plant foods around. Consider this: Beans are packed with tons of fiber, as well as plenty of iron and protein. They are rich in antioxidants and phytonutrients. They are low in calories. Plus, studies have found them to lower risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Many people avoid beans because they just don’t know what to do with them. Are you one of them? Power in Numbers

It's true. I like numbers. I like the objectivity they provide. I like to know the temperature outside, how fast I'm going, how many miles per gallon I'm getting, how many more payments I have on my mortgage, and how many minutes (or hours!) I have to throw myself into a Netflix binge before I have to start getting ready for my next appointment. In many ways, numbers bring a clarity that provide me with a sense of safety and security. In other ways, however, numbers can become little gremlins that suck the joy out of my very existence. read more

Breathe Like Your Life Depends on It (…it just might!)

When I ask clients why they overeat or otherwise stray from healthy habits, more often than not, they refer to various forms of stress in their lives. Work. Relationships. Finances. Family. Pretty much all major areas of our lives bring some level of stress. When I follow up with a question about how they relax, they usually wave off the notion of relaxation as something they simply do not have time for. Sadly, many of us believe that stress is just a natural part living in America today. Indeed, in the fast paced world of making sure the bills are paid, the kids are fed, and the home is kept up, relaxation has become, for many of us, a luxury at best and a guilty pleasure at worst. As a member of Middle Class America, I get it. However, if you would indulge me for just a moment, I would like to make a case for relaxation as a practice that can move us from just surviving to truly thriving. read more

Looking for a Few Good Women

For many of us, August brings long hot days, vacation time, and summer eats! If you're like me, by August, you've attended a number of barbecues and other celebrations that are focused on food--and not always the healthiest foods! While there isn't really a month that doesn't give us an excuse to celebrate with food, by August, many of us are seeing some of those pounds come back on after our pre-swimsuit-slimdown in late spring. If we're lucky, we've kept the weight off, but maybe we've strayed from some healthy habits. If you are ready to get into action and start to improve or start some healthy habits, please join me and a cohort of women who are also hoping to increase their health through the month of August! read more

What I’m Reading: Kris Carr, Crazy Sexy Diet

One book that has helped me to think differently about the food I put in my body is Kris Carr's Crazy Sexy Diet. I'm not going to lie--it's been on my Kindle for over a year now. I've not read it until now because I've been so content with the Take Shape for Life approach. Really, TSFL is packed with wisdom and support around nutrition. But I needed to step out of the zone a bit to do some exploring on my own. Carr's story is this: at 31 years old, she was diagnosed with cancer. She was partying and living it up at the time, but the diagnosis got her attention. She took charge of her life and her heatlh by dramatically shifting her lifestyle. Through a whole-foods, plant-based approach, Carr stopped the cancer in its tracks. read more
